AP: US, Iran expected in Islamabad for new round of ceasefire talks
Two regional officials have told The Associated Press that the United States and Iran are expected to take part in a new round of ceasefire negotiations in Islamabad on April 22, as a fragile truce approaches its expiration.
According to the officials, Pakistan-led mediators have received confirmation that senior representatives from both sides — US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf — are expected to arrive in the Pakistani capital early on April 22 for discussions aimed at extending the ceasefire.
Neither Washington nor Tehran has publicly confirmed the timing or details of the talks. Iranian state media has also denied reports that any senior Iranian officials are already in Islamabad.
The reported negotiations come as a two-week ceasefire agreement nears its scheduled expiration, raising concerns over the potential resumption of hostilities if no extension or new framework is reached.
