Germany’s Interior Ministry draws up plan to counter drones, cyberattacks

06 September 2026 11:38

Germany’s Interior Ministry has drawn up a plan to counter unidentified drones and cyberattacks, Bild reports.

The document calls for expanding the Federal Police’s mobile anti-drone units. They will be deployed near strategically important facilities, including the airports of Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich, Frankfurt/Main and Stuttgart, as well as railway stations and Berlin’s government district.

Operators of critical infrastructure will also be granted the authority to independently take protective measures against drones.

The plan further envisages expanding the use of artificial intelligence to track potential terrorists or agents. This would include facial recognition and video surveillance systems, which could be installed at locations such as railway stations.

In addition, the authorities intend to establish a nationwide cyberattack defense system dubbed Cyberdome. It will detect and intercept attempts by hackers to gain access to government or corporate systems.
