CENTCOM says Iranian oil tanker sank following US strike

Iranian oil tanker M/T Kylo sank in the Gulf of Oman following a US strike, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on X on September 6.

“Thanks to the precision and professionalism of American service members, the M/T Kylo sank in the Gulf of Oman today and joined Iran’s navy at the bottom of the sea,” the command said in a statement.

On September 5, CENTCOM reported strikes on three Iranian tankers. In addition to the M/T Kylo, the attacks targeted the M/T Downy near Khark Island and the M/T Stark 1 in the vicinity of Jask. According to the US side, the M/T Kylo was empty.

The command stressed that the strikes were carried out in response to Iran launching ballistic missiles toward two US Navy vessels. CENTCOM said no American service members were injured in the incident.
