Mount Semeru volcano erupts on Indonesia’s Java Island

Mount Semeru erupted on Indonesia’s Java Island on September 6.

The eruption sent an ash column approximately one kilometer above the volcano’s summit, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

“The eruption was recorded by a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23 millimeters and lasted for 102 seconds,” said Sigit Rian Alfian, an official at the Mount Semeru Observation Post. The eruption occurred amid ongoing forest fires on Mount Semeru.

Residents are also prohibited from carrying out activities within a 5-kilometer radius of Mount Semeru’s crater or summit due to the risk of incandescent rock ejections.

Sigit urged residents to remain vigilant for potential hot clouds, lava flows, and lahars along rivers and valleys originating from the summit of Mount Semeru.
