FT: Trump’s approval rating falls to new historic low
US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a historic low, according to a poll commissioned by the Financial Times (FT) and conducted by British polling firm Focaldata.
The survey found that 33% of respondents approved of his current course, down from 35% a month earlier. Support among Republicans also fell to 72%, the lowest level recorded in FT polling.
A majority of respondents rejected Washington’s trade policy and new tariffs, linking them to the rising cost of living. Two-thirds of voters believe the US economy is heading in the wrong direction, while 57% said the administration’s policies have negatively affected their financial situation. In addition, 56% expressed dissatisfaction with tariffs on Canada, citing concerns over further price increases.
FT also noted that Trump’s standing as a political ally is weakening. Some 46% of respondents said he is making the midterm elections more difficult for the Republican Party, while 47% said they would not support a candidate publicly endorsed by the president.
The poll was conducted from August 28 to September 1 among 1,914 registered voters, with a margin of error of approximately 2.6 percentage points.
