Armenia, Azerbaijan reach consensus on key peace issues PM Pashinyan says
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached agreement on all principal issues necessary to establish a foundation for peace.
Pashinyan made this statement as he addressed the BRICS Summit in the Outreach/BRICS+ format in Kazan, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“Our assessment is as follows: already today, in the agreed content, the draft treaty formulates, addresses, and solves all fundamental issues necessary for the establishment of a solid foundation for peace and normalization of relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and we propose Azerbaijan to sign this treaty,” he noted.
The Armenian PM specified that the document is agreed upon “at least 80-90 per cent.”
He further explained that the wording regarding mutual recognition of each other’s territorial integrity, the absence of mutual territorial claims, and the obligations not to make such claims in the future have already been fully agreed upon. Additionally, the principles of non-use of force and threat of force, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, the establishment of diplomatic relations, and the creation of bilateral mechanisms to fulfill the obligations outlined in the peace treaty have also been finalized.
