Chinese president calls for rapid de-escalation of Ukraine conflict
China’s President Xi Jinping has stressed the importance of preventing further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
He made such remarks while speaking at the opening ceremony of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
He noted that the group of “friends of peace” created recently by China aims to increase voices in favour of ending the military conflict in Ukraine.
Xi Jinping called to “promote the rapid de-escalation of the situation” not to allow the conflict to expand to third countries, as well as the deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
Moreover, Chinese President Xi Jinping told the summit there must be "no escalation of fighting" in Ukraine.
"We must adhere to the three principles of 'no spillover from the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no adding oil to the fire by relevant parties', so as to ease the situation as soon as possible," Xi said.
Notably, the BRICS summit commenced on October 22 in Kazan, Russia, and will continue until October 24. This gathering marks the first appearance of new member countries.
BRICS, an international coalition, includes five nations: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In 2024, the group expanded to include Egypt, Iran, the UAE, and Ethiopia. The alliance is increasingly establishing itself as a significant platform for global cooperation, promoting a multipolar world order.
BRICS partners want to reduce their dependence on the US dollar and the SWIFT system, an international messaging network for financial transactions that Russian banks were cut off from in 2022.
