Explosions rock Bulgarian military plant warehouse

A fire accompanied by a series of explosions broke out overnight at warehouses belonging to Bulgarian military manufacturer Emko near the village of Tsareva Livada in the Tryavna area, broadcaster Nova reports, citing the local administration.

Security personnel at the warehouses were evacuated, the area around the site was cordoned off, and Bulgaria’s national emergency alert system was activated.

Preliminary information indicated that there were no casualties and that no threat to residents of nearby settlements had been identified.

Emergency services were deployed at the scene. Nova reported that a series of explosions could be heard from the plant grounds, while the circumstances surrounding the fire were being investigated.

The incident marks the second fire at an Emko warehouse in the past month. On Aug. 10, a similar incident occurred at an ammunition warehouse near the village of Belitsa. No one was injured in that incident.
