Armenian, Iranian leaders discuss cooperation at BRICS summit
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian convened a meeting in Kazan on October 24, held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations between Armenia and Iran.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed satisfaction with the dynamic nature of the relationship with Iran, stating, "Since President Pezeshkian assumed office, the dynamics of our ties have not only been preserved but have developed further." He emphasized that the Armenian government prioritizes the development of relations with Iran as a key aspect of its foreign policy, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
In response, President Pezeshkian underscored the importance of continuously developing and expanding cooperation with Armenia, particularly in the economic and cultural sectors. "Iran prioritizes fostering ties with its neighbouring and friendly countries, and Armenia is undoubtedly one of those countries," he remarked.
The discussions included a range of topics on the bilateral agenda, with a focus on cooperation in the economy, energy, and infrastructure. Both leaders acknowledged the significance of taking consistent steps toward achieving peace and stability in the region.
Pashinyan and Pezeshkian stated that robust and profound bilateral relations would serve as a foundation for enhanced regional cooperation. "A strong partnership between Armenia and Iran will undoubtedly contribute to the development of regional partnership," Pashinyan affirmed.
The BRICS summit, which is set to last three days, is attended by officials from 36 countries and focuses on strengthening multilateralism, integrating new members, and addressing regional challenges. Since assuming the rotating presidency of BRICS on January 1, 2024, Russia has emphasized collaborative efforts to enhance the bloc’s influence on global affairs.
