Lavrov warns US, Israel’s actions in Syria could lead to state fragmentation
The behaviour of the United States and Israel in Syria could lead to the disintegration of the country and contradicts the principle of indivisible security, said Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"It is crucial that Syria is not allowed to fragment, even if some would like that," he said in an interview with Russian and foreign media, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
According to Lavrov, it is essential to "address the situation in eastern Syria, where the Americans have unlawfully occupied a significant portion of the territory, including areas where major oil fields and the most fertile lands are located."
"All of this is being extracted, exported, and the profits are used to support separatist structures that the Americans have established in eastern Syrian territory. This must be taken into account," Lavrov remarked.
Commenting further, Lavrov remarked that, Russia understands Türkiye’s legitimate concerns regarding security along its border with Syria.
"We understand the legitimate concerns of the Turkish leadership and people regarding security on the Syrian border, where there have been repeated incidents involving terrorist groups that have caused unrest," he noted.
