Putin highlights Armenian-Azerbaijani border demarcation as key step toward peace treaty
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the demarcation and delimitation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a crucial step towards achieving a peace treaty.
President Putin made these remarks following a speech by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"It is very encouraging to note that the process of demarcation and delimitation has begun; this is indeed the right path toward a peace agreement," he said.
During his speech, Pashinyan noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan would be able to accelerate the border delimitation process after the ratification of the commissions' operational regulations.
The Russian leader also welcomed Armenia's willingness to develop logistics projects with Azerbaijan.
The Armenian parliament has recently approved the operational regulations for the commissions tasked with delimiting borders with Azerbaijan. Following ratification, the document will be sent to the president for signature and will come into effect after official publication.
On September 2, the Armenian government released a draft for ratifying the provisions concerning the joint work of the delimitation commissions with Azerbaijan.
According to the bill, the Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions will use all relevant maps and documents that have legal validity during the delimitation process.
The provisions are drafted in the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian languages and will also require ratification by Azerbaijan.
