Media: Pentagon goes on alert after order to plan operations against Cuba
The Pentagon has received a directive to prepare for potential operations against Cuba, according to the news portal Zeteo, citing sources.
“Officials at the Pentagon and elsewhere in the US government were quietly given a new directive that came straight from the Trump White House,” the report said, referencing three sources familiar with the matter.
According to the publication, the US Department of Defence was instructed to intensify “preparations for possible military operations against Cuba.”
Trump previously stated that he might “take a look at Cuba” after resolving the situation in Iran.
Earlier reports also suggested that the US president was considering several options of pressure on Cuba, including creating economic dependence on Washington and pursuing leadership change in the country.
