Iran imposes new shipping routes in strategic Strait of Hormuz
Iran has announced new restrictions governing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
“Only civilian vessels may pass through the designated routes with the permission of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Civilian ships must follow the routes established by the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization,” a senior Iranian military official was quoted as saying by IRIB.
To note, Iran announced the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping for the duration of the current ceasefire in Lebanon, a move that triggered a sharp drop in global oil prices.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said that the passage for all commercial vessels through the strait had been declared fully open for the remaining period of the ceasefire, in coordination with the country’s Ports and Maritime Organisation.
