Nine people have been killed and 13 others injured, six of them seriously, in a school shooting in Kahramanmaraş, officials said.

“As a result of the bloody attack, the death toll has reached nine people, eight of them students and one teacher. Thirteen people are receiving treatment. Six are in critical condition,” Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi told journalists.

According to NTV, one of the victims was a teacher and three were students. The attacker was identified as Isa Aras Mersinli, an 8th-grade student at the same school. He died by suicide following the attack.

Authorities said the attacker’s father, Ugur Mersinli, a former police officer, has been detained as investigations underway.

A comprehensive investigation has been launched into a school shooting incident in Türkiye’s Kahramanmaraş, with senior prosecutors appointed to lead the case, NTV reports.

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said that three deputy chief public prosecutors of the republic and four prosecutors have been assigned to conduct the investigation, while Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi and Education Minister Yusuf Tekin have travelled to Kahramanmaraş following the incident.

A decision has additionally been made to impose a ban on media publications regarding the armed attack.

“In order to ensure the proper conduct of the investigation, a publication ban has been introduced. It is important that the media strictly respects the confidentiality of the investigation,” Gürlek added.

Furthermore, the broadcaster reported that the armed attacker, whose father is a former police officer, took his own life inside the school.

Four people have been killed and 20 others injured in an armed attack at a school in Türkiye, including one teacher and three students.

The provincial governor of Kahramanmaraş, Mükerrem Ünlüer said the attacker had been neutralized, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

He added that the assailant was a student who was carrying five firearms and seven magazines of ammunition; his father previously worked in the police force.

The circumstances surrounding the attack and the motive for the shooting remain under investigation.

A new armed attack has taken place at a school in Türkiye, this time in the province of Kahramanmaraş, with injuries reported.

According to local authorities, the incident occurred at Ayser Çalık Secondary School, TRT Haber reports.

The provincial governor said the attack took place for reasons that have not yet been determined and confirmed that there were casualties.

“An attack is currently taking place. A sad incident has occurred at one of our schools. We have received information about injuries. A thorough investigation is underway,” he said.

The circumstances of the incident, the exact number of injured, and the condition of those affected have not yet been clarified. Authorities continue their work at the scene.

It is noted that a shooting also took place at a school in Türkiye’s Şanlıurfa province the previous day.
