Official: Iran rejects temporary ceasefire, seeks broader regional settlement
Iran rejects any temporary ceasefire and is seeking a comprehensive settlement to end hostilities across the region, Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said on April 17.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Khatibzadeh said any truce would need to extend across multiple theatres, from Lebanon to the Red Sea, which he described as a red line for Tehran, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
“We are not accepting any temporary ceasefire,” he said, adding that the cycle of conflict should end “once and for all.”
He said Pakistan was involved in mediation efforts aimed at securing a broader political settlement.
Khatibzadeh also said Iran remained committed to keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, while indicating that new arrangements could be introduced, including measures related to security and safe passage.
