Georgia names Tamaz Borashvili as new State Security Service chief

Tamaz Borashvili will become head of Georgia’s State Security Service, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced at a briefing.
Gela Geladze, who left the post on September 14, will become deputy interior minister. Notably, he previously served as interior minister from May 2025 to April 2026.
Borashvili is a career officer of the State Security Service. He was appointed deputy head of the service under Mamuka Mdinaradze in September 2025. Following a change in the agency’s leadership in April 2026, Borashvili retained his position as deputy head under Geladze.
