Turkmenistan launches fourth phase of development at Galkynysh gas field
Turkmenistan has launched the fourth phase of development at the massive Galkynysh gas field, marking a new stage in efforts to expand production and exports.
A ceremonial event was held at the site to begin drilling new wells and constructing a natural gas processing plant, according to the state newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan, foreign media reports.
The project includes facilities designed to process up to 10 billion cubic metres of commercial gas per year. Authorities say the expansion is aimed at increasing output and strengthening Turkmenistan’s position as a major energy exporter, particularly to China.
The initiative is also expected to create new jobs and further develop the country’s energy sector, while deepening cooperation between Turkmenistan and China in the natural gas industry.
Earlier, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved a decree under which the state-owned company Turkmengaz signed a contract with CNPC Amu Darya Petroleum Company.
The Galkynysh field is considered one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, and its phased development is central to Turkmenistan’s long-term export strategy.
