Türkiye mobilizes to find Russian guide missing in Nepal
Turkish diplomats are assisting efforts to locate Russian citizen Elena Oksuz, who went missing after severe flooding in Nepal and stopped responding to calls.
RIA Novosti reported the development, citing the Istanbul Chamber of Guides.
The organization said it has been in contact with Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry and Oksuz’s relatives since learning of the incident. The Turkish Embassy in Nepal is monitoring the situation and taking measures to establish the Russian national’s whereabouts.
Oksuz, who works as a tour guide in Türkiye, was in Nepal accompanying a group of Estonian tourists. On the day of the incident, she and the group left a hotel located near a border crossing.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, while efforts to locate her are ongoing.
Oksuz also has previous experience assisting people affected by natural disasters. In 2023, she worked as an interpreter for rescue teams in earthquake-hit areas of Türkiye.
