Media: Armenian Defence Ministry set for senior general shake-up
29 August 2026 10:45
Dismissals of senior generals are reportedly expected at Armenia’s Ministry of Defense amid growing public dissatisfaction over conditions in the military and a rise in deaths, according to Armenian media cited by Caliber.Az.
Defence Minister Suren Papikyan has reportedly decided to dismiss several high-ranking generals following a series of recent incidents and replace them with younger officers who are considered more controllable, the reports said.
One of those expected to be removed is reportedly Temur Shahnazaryan, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces.
The reports come amid an increase in reported suicide cases in the Armenian military in recent months.
