Ukrainian drone attack sparks fires, damages homes in Russia's Rostov PHOTO

A large-scale Ukrainian drone attack targeted Russia’s Rostov region on Saturday, damaging two apartment buildings in Rostov-on-Don and injuring seven people, according to regional Governor Yury Slyusar.

Authorities issued and later lifted missile and drone alerts. Initial information on casualties and damage was being clarified.

“Rostov-on-Don, as well as the Aksaysky, Bagayevsky and Neklinovsky districts, came under attack. Information on casualties and the consequences on the ground resulting from falling UAV debris is being clarified,” Slyusar said.

Seven people were later reported injured.

Four people were hospitalized in Rostov-on-Don, including two children. One of the children was in serious condition, Slyusar said. Two apartment buildings in the city’s Proletarsky district were damaged.

“As a result of falling UAV debris, two apartment buildings in Rostov-on-Don’s Proletarsky district were damaged. Emergency services are working at the scene. Residents are being evacuated. A temporary accommodation center has been set up. People are receiving the necessary assistance. Ambulance crews are on standby.

“In Aksaysky district, three people sought medical assistance. Doctors are providing all necessary care. Information is being clarified.

“UAV debris was found on the premises of warehouse facilities. A fire also broke out in a wooded area as a result of falling UAV debris,” Slyusar said.

Eyewitnesses in Rostov-on-Don and Aksay posted footage showing a large fire and damaged apartment buildings following the attack.
