Media: Armenia could become major buyer of India’s Pralay missiles

29 August 2026 09:01

India is discussing the possible export of Pralay tactical missiles to Armenia, according to the Indian Defence Research Wing, as the two countries deepen defence cooperation and explore potential joint weapons development and production.

The report follows a recent visit to Armenia by Rajesh Kumar Singh, secretary of India’s Ministry of Defence.

Pralay is a solid-fuel, guided missile developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation. Indian Defence Research Wing said Armenia could become one of the largest foreign buyers of tactical missiles developed entirely in India, rather than foreign systems manufactured in India under license.

Armenia has already expanded its purchases of Indian defence equipment, including Pinaka multiple-launch rocket systems, ATAGS howitzers, Akash surface-to-air missile systems and Swathi radars.

Citing sources familiar with the discussions, the publication said India could offer Armenia an export version of the Pralay missile system with a reduced range of about 290 kilometres. The standard Pralay variant, which has a longer range, is not available for export, it said.

The final specifications of any potential Armenian version, including its range and warhead, would be determined during negotiations between the two countries, according to the report.

The discussions also appear to extend beyond arms sales. Armenia and India are prepared to explore opportunities for joint development and production of defence systems, indicating a potential shift toward a broader defence-industrial partnership.
