Armenia sends opposition leader Karapetyan’s case to Anti-Corruption Court

29 August 2026 15:31

The criminal case against Narek Karapetyan, leader of Armenia’s opposition Strong Armenia faction and a member of parliament, has been referred to the Anti-Corruption Court, Armenian media reported on August 29.

Karapetyan and his associate Alik Aleksanyan are accused of forming a criminal group whose activities allegedly caused damage to the state, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

According to Armenia’s Investigative Committee, Aleksanyan, founder and executive director of the public organisation Po-Svoemu, received about $4.4 million and €230,000 from the Tashir Foundation between October 2025 and March 2026, allegedly in the form of gifts and loans.

Investigators allege that the funds were used to bribe voters.

Aleksanyan has been in custody since June 3. Karapetyan is subject to a travel restriction and has been released on bail.
