Iran urges world to reject US sanctions pressure

Iran has called on other countries not to assist the United States in imposing sanctions pressure on Tehran, describing Washington’s unilateral restrictions as illegal, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday, August 28.

“All governments are likewise required to refrain from recognising or endorsing situations and consequences arising from these unlawful measures,” the ministry said in a statement published by the Iranian news agency ISNA.

The Foreign Ministry described the economic measures imposed by Washington as “absolutely illegal and unjustified.”

The statement came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced last week that Washington was launching a campaign to intensify economic pressure on Iran.

On Tuesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Washington was prepared to impose secondary sanctions on parties involved in certain trade transactions with Iran.

Bessent said the United States would inform other countries how much time they would have to wind down specific dealings with Tehran.
