Russian MFA official warns Polish diplomats to prepare for retaliation
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has urged Polish diplomats to prepare for a response following the country’s Foreign Ministry's demand that ten employees of the Russian Consulate General in Poznan leave the country.
“Polish diplomats should get ready,” Zakharova stated in comments, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
On October 22, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced the decision to close the Russian consulate general in Poznan, stating that its staff would be required to exit Poland in the coming days. Prior to this, Russia operated three consulates in Poland: in Krakow, Poznan, and Gdansk. Currently, three Polish consulates remain open in Russia, located in Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, and Irkutsk.
Sikorski also indicated the possibility of expelling the Russian ambassador in the future. Zakharova asserted that Russia would not delay in responding to Poland's decision to close the consulate general in Poznan.
