Northern Cyprus puts Greek side's arms buildup under watch

The authorities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are closely monitoring the buildup of arms in the Greek Cypriot-administered part of the island, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz in Lefkoşa, Üstel said defence agreements signed by Nicosia with foreign countries, along with the broader security situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, remain under close scrutiny by Northern Cyprus, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

“The security of Turkish Cypriots is our top priority. We have no right to ignore any developments in this area and will not allow negligence,” Üstel said, describing Türkiye as the “best guarantor of security for the TRNC.”

Üstel also said the coming five years would mark a “period of rapid development” for Turkish Cyprus, which he attributed to continued support from Ankara.
