Moscow voting system faces overnight attacks, election chief says

19 September 2026 13:06

Russia's Central Election Commission head Ella Pamfilova says Moscow's electoral system has been subjected to attacks throughout the night of voting.

“A large-scale attempt to attack the Moscow electoral system is continuing, but the situation remains fully under control,” Pamfilova said at a briefing at the commission's information centre.

Russia is holding three-day elections for the ninth State Duma from September 18 to 20, with voters electing all 450 members of the lower house for five-year terms.

Under the mixed electoral system, 225 seats will be allocated through party lists and 225 through single-member constituencies.

Ten parties are contesting the federal vote, while 333 polling stations are operating in 152 countries for Russians abroad.

Voters are also electing regional leaders and members of regional and local councils across the country.
