Media: Russian opposition figure Yashin cancels Armenia trip over physical threat

Russian opposition politician Ilya Yashin has cancelled a planned trip to Armenia after receiving a warning about a physical threat, according to Russian outlet ASTRA.

Yashin is currently in the US and had planned to travel to Yerevan on September 20 to visit a polling station as part of the “Noon for a Peaceful Russia” initiative and meet with the anti-war community.

He said he received a warning about risks linked to the trip while in Washington.

“I cannot disclose the details, but it concerns a physical threat. Unfortunately, I cannot ignore this information and have to follow security protocols. Therefore, the trip to Armenia is being postponed, and my participation in the events planned there is cancelled,” Yashin wrote.

He said he would instead go to a polling station near the Russian embassy in New York at noon on September 20.
