Austria accepts terms of payment for Russian gas in rubles
Austria has announced its agreement to pay for Russian gas in rubles.
This statement was made on Wednesday by the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, TASS reports.
The Austrian side, represented by the Austrian energy company OMV, accepted Russia's conditions to pay for its gas supplies in rubles by opening an appropriate account in a Russian bank.
“We, that is OMV, have accepted the terms of payment, as has the German government. They [the conditions] were found to be consistent with the conditions of the sanctions. It was important for us,” Nehammer said at a press conference.
The Chancellor focused on the fact that Poland and Bulgaria, according to incoming information, refused to pay for Russian gas under the scheme in Russian rubles, and therefore faced problems with the supply of fuel from Russia.
