Azerbaija, EU pledge stronger partnership in green energy and gas sectors
On April 4, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Dan Jørgensen, the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, who is in Azerbaijan to participate in the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting.
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the long and successful history of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Commission, based on mutual trust, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He emphasized the importance of this relationship, particularly in the current period when energy issues have become a crucial global factor. The Azerbaijani president noted that the European market is the primary market for Azerbaijan in the energy sector and reiterated Azerbaijan's intention to expand its energy exports within this market.
Dan Jørgensen conveyed the greetings of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to President Aliyev. In response, President Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings and requested that his own greetings be passed on to President von der Leyen.
The European Commissioner for Energy and Housing also expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan’s significant contribution to Europe’s energy security, especially during the current complex global energy situation. He emphasized that the European Union attaches great importance to its cooperation with Azerbaijan and expressed a strong desire to further enhance this partnership in the future.
Jørgensen congratulated Azerbaijan on successfully hosting COP29 and highlighted the positive impact of the country’s role in the international energy dialogue.
The discussions during the meeting focused on cooperation in both the natural gas and green energy sectors. Jørgensen noted that the European Union is considering ways to support further cooperation in these areas within its capabilities. The two parties also acknowledged the success of the ongoing energy dialogue between Azerbaijan and the European Union, expressing mutual hope for its continuation and further development in the future.
