The statement highlighted that approximately 15 percent of the global population lives with disabilities and stressed the importance of ensuring that the human rights protections enshrined in the Convention are upheld under all circumstances.
The participating countries emphasised the particular challenges faced by persons with disabilities in conflict and post-conflict settings, especially those impacted by landmines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices.
The group called for stronger and more timely international assistance to support disability prevention efforts in affected regions, including through the creation, development and effective functioning of national mine-action capacities.
It also underscored the need to enhance national capabilities in emergency and long-term medical care, physical rehabilitation, prosthetic services, education and economic reintegration to promote the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.
