Azerbaijan declares December 26 day of mourning after deadly Aktau plane crash
A national day of mourning has been declared in Azerbaijan for December 26 following the tragic crash of an Embraer 190 passenger aircraft.
President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order in this regard, Caliber.Az reports.
The aircraft, operating the Baku-Grozny flight on December 25, resulted in numerous casualties.
To recap, on December 25, an Embraer 190 aircraft belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), operating flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny, crashed in Aktau.
There were 67 people on board the Azerbaijan Airlines flight, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members, as confirmed by a statement from the airline’s press office.
Among those on board, there were 37 Azerbaijani nationals, 16 Russian citizens, six from Kazakhstan, and three from Kyrgyzstan.
Following the tragic incident, condolences have been extended by world leaders and organizations, offering their sympathies to the people of Azerbaijan.
