Azerbaijan endorses global accord to phase down harmful hydrofluorocarbons
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has signed a decree approving the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, adopted on October 15, 2016.
According to information published on the official website of the head of state, the decision reaffirms Azerbaijan’s commitment to international efforts aimed at combating climate change and protecting the environment.
The Kigali Amendment, which complements the 1987 Montreal Protocol, sets out a schedule for the gradual reduction of the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) — potent greenhouse gases used primarily in refrigeration and air conditioning.
Its implementation is considered a crucial step toward mitigating global warming and advancing sustainable environmental policies.
