The East Zangazur Economic Region was established upon a presidential decree in July 2021.
The region includes Zangilan, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Lachin, and Kalbajar districts that were liberated from Armenian occupation in 2020.
According to the decree, the creation of the new region is aimed at the efficient use of the economic potential, natural resources, and wide tourism opportunities of the mentioned districts.
In October 2021, President Aliyev signed another decree on the establishment of the "Araz Valley Economic Zone" Industrial Park in Jabrayil. The park is the first-of-a-kind infrastructure project in East Zangazur.
The "Araz Valley Economic Zone" Industrial Park should have the necessary infrastructure and management institutions for the implementation of entrepreneurial activities, the organization of logistics operations, and the production, processing (recycling), and sale of competitive products in the industrial field.
