Azerbaijan, Germany open new chapter in strategic partnership with joint declaration

21 July 2026 17:37

Azerbaijan and Germany have agreed to continue ministerial dialogue on regional and global security issues, enhance cooperation in mine action, combat illicit drug trafficking, expand ties in the defence industry, and continue exchanges of experts and students between the military academies and specialised institutions of the two countries.

According to Caliber.Az, the provisions are reflected in the Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda for the Bilateral Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Germany, signed on July 21 by President Ilham Aliyev and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The document also provides for regular high-level consultations aimed at further deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthening practical engagement on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest, promoting bilateral trade and investment opportunities, and making fuller use of the potential for cooperation in such areas as agriculture, green energy, connectivity, environmental protection and water resource management.

In addition, the declaration envisages the implementation of cultural exchange programmes and initiatives, the development of cooperation in innovative and digital education, the expansion of joint research projects, and closer interaction in digital transformation, industrial modernisation and advanced technologies, as well as in the fields of education and science.
