Azerbaijan’s first family tours China’s monumental Great Hall of the People PHOTO
On April 23, Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan, visited the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
She was accompanied by her daughter Leyla Aliyeva and other family members, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The Great Hall of the People, located on the western edge of Tiananmen Square in central Beijing, is one of China's most iconic landmarks. It plays a central role in the country’s political and ceremonial life, hosting some of the nation’s most significant events. These include congresses of the Communist Party of China, annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC), and official welcoming ceremonies for foreign heads of state.
The grand building was constructed to mark the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and was officially opened in 1959. Designed as a symbol of national unity, the complex comprises three main sections: the Grand Auditorium, the Main Auditorium, the Congress Hall, the State Banquet Hall, and various official reception rooms. The administrative building of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress is also housed within the complex. Additionally, there are halls named after the different regions of China.
While the hall serves as a venue for high-profile government activities, it is also open to the public on select days each month when no state events are taking place.
