Azerbaijan shines at opening of Osaka Expo 2025 with striking national pavilion
The Osaka Expo 2025 has officially opened in Japan under the visionary theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” with Azerbaijan—an active participant in World Expos since 2000—making a notable impact through the unveiling of its national pavilion.
Held in the vibrant city of Osaka, the global event is expected to draw millions of visitors and foster dialogue on sustainability, innovation, and cultural exchange, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The opening ceremony welcomed high-profile guests including Japanese Emperor Naruhito, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions Dimitri Kerkentzes, and representatives from 165 participating nations and seven international organizations. Organised by the Heydar Aliyev Centre, the Azerbaijani Pavilion is situated in the Connecting Lives zone and carries the theme “Seven Bridges for Sustainability.”
The concept of the pavilion is inspired by the iconic poem Seven Beauties by celebrated Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi. It highlights Azerbaijan’s dedication to sustainability, cultural richness, innovation, and openness to international dialogue—key principles for shaping a better global future. Designed with a striking three-story “shebeke” façade—a traditional Azerbaijani stained-glass art—the pavilion offers visitors an immersive journey. Each of the seven symbolic beauties represents core themes such as historical heritage, traditional arts, architecture, sustainable development, natural wealth, tourism, and cultural diversity.
The display also features three symbolic trees: “The Tree of Azerbaijan,” “The Tree of Japan,” and “The Tree of Friendship”, symbolising the deepening ties and shared environmental values between the two nations. Covering over 155 hectares, Expo 2025 will run until October 13, with organizers expecting approximately 28 million visitors over the course of the event.
