Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba discussed energy cooperation and bilateral relations during a meeting in Baku on May 19.

During the meeting, President Aliyev recalled his visit to Slovakia last year and noted recent visits by Slovak officials to Azerbaijan, including trips by Prime Minister Robert Fico. He said the exchanges reflected active cooperation between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports via state media.

The Azerbaijani president described relations between Baku and Bratislava as friendly and based on partnership, adding that he was satisfied with the current level of cooperation.

Taraba thanked the Azerbaijani side for its hospitality and said Slovakia consistently supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

The Slovak deputy prime minister also described Azerbaijan as a reliable energy partner, noting that the country has supplied gas to Slovakia whenever needed.

President Aliyev said Azerbaijan currently exports natural gas to 12 European countries, including 10 European Union member states, and added that the number of importing countries could increase further in the future.

The Slovak official also highlighted the importance of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum being hosted in Baku.

The two sides noted that bilateral ties are characterised by a strategic partnership and exchanged views on future areas of cooperation.
