Azerbaijan, Türkiye foreign ministers condemn Iran’s attacks
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, held talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Istanbul on March 7, discussing the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and growing regional tensions.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the informal meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
During the talks, the sides strongly condemned the missile launch from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran targeting Türkiye, as well as drone attacks carried out against Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
The ministers stressed that such actions contradict the norms and principles of international law, contribute to escalating tensions in the region and further complicate the security environment.
Bayramov also expressed gratitude for the statements of support for Azerbaijan issued by the Turkish side, including by the Turkish leadership, immediately following the attacks.
He also noted that Azerbaijan highly appreciates the temporary organisation of flights through Iğdır Airport to ensure the safety of air connections between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on cooperation and coordination within the framework of the Azerbaijan–Türkiye strategic alliance, as well as on upcoming high-level contacts and other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
