10 May 2024 15:30

During a trilateral meeting with the Armenian and Kazakh counterparts, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed optimism about the negotiations in Almaty, highlighting their potential for advancing Azerbaijan-Armenia relations.

The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts to address long-standing issues between the two countries, Trend reports.

Bayramov emphasized the significance of recent negotiations, noting the signing of a protocol initiating the delimitation process of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border as a crucial development. He underscored Azerbaijan's commitment to this process, highlighting its importance in resolving outstanding issues.

Anticipating the discussions in Almaty, Bayramov expressed confidence in their productivity, stressing the need for constructive dialogue to address remaining challenges. He conveyed Azerbaijan's readiness to engage in meaningful negotiations over the next two days to seek viable solutions and promote reconciliation.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister has described regular meetings on the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan as a key element in preparing the peace agreement as he held a trilateral meeting with his Kazakh and Armenian counterparts.

"I would like to express gratitude to the Kazakh side, personally to the President of Kazakhstan for his initiative to hold another round of talks between the delegations of the two countries in Kazakhstan. Regular meetings on the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan are an important element in the process of preparing a peace agreement. The last time the delegations met more than two months ago in Berlin," Bayramov said

FM Bayramov emphasized that since the last meeting the sides exchanged comments on the draft peace agreement, as well as additionally exchanged certain documents reflecting the positions of the parties on certain aspects of the negotiation process.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister is on a visit to Almaty. The next round of negotiations between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the draft "Bilateral Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations" between the two countries is scheduled as part of the visit.

On April 30, Kazakh Foreign Ministry Spokesman Aybek Smadiarov said that Baku and Yerevan confirmed their participation in the talks in Almaty.

Earlier, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev offered a platform for talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
