27 September 2025 12:26

On September 27 at 12:00, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid tribute to the martyrs of the Patriotic War at the Ganja Memorial Complex. He observed a minute of silence in their honour, in connection with Remembrance Day.

According to the official website of the head of state, cited by Caliber.Az, the event was held to commemorate the servicemen who heroically fought and sacrificed their lives for the country.

Martyrs’ Remembrance Day is celebrated annually in Azerbaijan following a decree issued by President Aliyev on December 2, 2020, to pay tribute to servicemen who heroically fought and sacrificed their lives defending the country’s territorial integrity during the Patriotic War.

On September 27, 2020, under the leadership of Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army launched counter-offensive operations along the entire frontline to prevent military provocations and ensure civilian safety.

The 44-day Patriotic War concluded with a decisive victory for Azerbaijan, during which 2,908 servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces became martyrs.

On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched an anti-terrorist operation in the Karabakh economic region to halt large-scale provocations, remove the remaining Armenian armed forces, and restore the constitutional order. The operation lasted 23 hours and 43 minutes and was executed with exceptional professionalism, successfully achieving all objectives, dismantling the illegal Karabakh junta regime, and arresting key separatist leaders. During this operation, 192 Azerbaijani servicemen lost their lives.

As a result of the Patriotic War and the anti-terrorist operation, Azerbaijan liberated its ancestral lands long under Armenian occupation, restoring state sovereignty and constitutional order across its entire territory. Reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing in the liberated areas, and the safe return of residents to their native lands is being facilitated.
