Azerbaijani president arrives in Egypt on working visit PHOTO
On October 12, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Egypt on a working visit to participate in the Middle East Peace Summit at the invitation of US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
An honour guard was lined up at Sharm El Sheikh International Airport to welcome the Azerbaijani president, Caliber.Az reports per Azertac.
The Azerbaijani leader was greeted at the airport by Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi and other officials.
The trip coincides with preparations for the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on October 13, co-chaired by al-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, inviting over 20 leaders to finalise the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Brokered by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, alongside Qatari and Egyptian mediators, the deal—announced October 11—envisions phased hostage releases, prisoner swaps, Hamas disarmament, and UN-led aid and reconstruction in Gaza.
Notably, Israel and Hamas are absent from the summit, with attendees including Azerbaijan, Türkiye, the UK, Italy, Spain, France, Qatar, Jordan, and Armenia.
