Azerbaijani president extends congratulations to Italy on 80th anniversary of republic

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has addressed a congratulatory letter to his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Italian Republic.

In his message, President Aliyev conveyed his best wishes to the Italian leadership and people, stating: “On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, I am delighted to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you and, through you, to your friendly people on the momentous occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic.”

He described Italy as a key strategic partner of Azerbaijan, emphasising the depth of bilateral relations. “Italy is a close friend and a reliable strategic partner of Azerbaijan,” the Azerbaijani leader noted, adding that cooperation is developing “in a spirit of mutual respect and trust.”

Highlighting the importance of high-level political dialogue, President Aliyev referred to President Mattarella’s visit to Baku last year, calling it an important milestone in interstate relations. He also pointed to the inauguration of the Italy–Azerbaijan University, describing it as a symbol of expanding cultural and humanitarian ties.

The Azerbaijani President stressed that cooperation between the two countries spans a wide range of sectors. “Today, the spectrum of issues on our bilateral agenda is exceptionally broad,” he said, noting collaboration in energy, trade, industry, education, and emerging sectors.

He further underlined that both sides continue working to expand cooperation beyond traditional areas, including investment, defence, and humanitarian engagement.

Concluding his message, President Aliyev expressed confidence in the continued strengthening of relations between the two countries and extended his wishes for prosperity to Italy. “I am fully convinced that we will successfully continue our joint efforts to strengthen Azerbaijani-Italian friendship,” he stated.

He also wished President Mattarella good health and success in his duties, and extended wishes of well-being and prosperity to the people of Italy.
