Azerbaijani president, first lady inspect conditions at Zangilan Int'l Airport PHOTO

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have viewed the conditions created at Zangilan International Airport.

President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC Jahangir Asgarov informed the head of state and the first lady about the airport, Caliber.Az reports citing Azertag.

The runway of Zangilan International Airport is 3,000 metres in length and 60 metres in width. The airport will be capable of accommodating all types of aircraft, including heavy cargo aircraft.

Built in accordance with international standards, the airport terminal will be able to serve 200 passengers per hour. The terminal has a VIP lounge, cafe, medical point and office rooms.

An air Traffic Control Tower has been built at the airport, equipped with fully automated air traffic control and air communication systems.

To ensure flight safety in accordance with the international requirements of the ICAO, modern aeronautical support systems of leading manufacturers from Italy and Germany have been used. In a short time, ILS/DME instrument landing systems, aircraft navigation systems along the VOR/DME route, automated aviation and meteorological observation systems, and primary and secondary radar systems were built and put into operation. All systems have been registered in the international aviation catalogues of ICAO and Eurocontrol.

Auxiliary buildings, a transformer room, a boiler room and water tanks have been built on the territory of the Zangilan International Airport.

A 35-kilovolt double-circuit cable transmission line with a length of about 10 kilometres has been laid. An artesian well with a depth of 230 meters has been drilled.

It should be noted that the Zangilan International Airport is one of the main facilities that determine the transformation of Karabakh into an important transport hub. In addition, the airport is of strategic importance in terms of strengthening the Zangazur corridor with air transport infrastructure. The pace of work is bringing closer the day closer when this territory becomes an international transport and logistics hub.

It should also be said that the Zangilan International Airport is the second after the Fuzuli airport with international status, commissioned in the territories liberated from occupation. The construction of the third airport is being carried out on the territory of the Lachin district.
