Azerbaijani president hosts Iranian delegation, pledges support to ease regional tensions PHOTO
On February 6, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan received a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran, led by Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics Aziz Nasirzadeh.
During the meeting, Ilham Aliyev recalled a recent telephone conversation with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, and noted that high-level contacts provide favourable opportunities to discuss issues on the bilateral agenda, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Emphasising that Masoud Pezeshkian’s official visit to Azerbaijan last year was successful and produced positive outcomes, the President stated that Azerbaijan-Iran relations have developed following that visit.
Highlighting that wars and conflicts continue in many parts of the world, the Head of State said that, thanks to Azerbaijan’s initiative, peace has been established in the South Caucasus and expressed confidence that this holds significant importance for Iran, which shares borders with both Azerbaijan and Armenia. Ilham Aliyev added that Azerbaijan is concerned about the situation in the region and is ready to provide support to reduce tensions.
Aziz Nasirzadeh conveyed greetings from Masoud Pezeshkian to Ilham Aliyev and stated that he had come to Azerbaijan on the instructions of the Iranian Head of State. The guest stressed that Masoud Pezeshkian fondly recalls his visits to Azerbaijan, particularly to Khankendi. Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greeting and requested that a reply be conveyed to Masoud Pezeshkian.
During the conversation, the development of bilateral relations between the two countries—based on principles of friendship, brotherhood, and good neighbourliness—was noted, and views were exchanged on prospects for cooperation in the defence sector.
