Azerbaijani president, Lithuanian new PM discuss energy security, trade
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius discussed bilateral relations, energy security, trade and Azerbaijan-EU cooperation during a phone call on August 10.
President Aliyev congratulated Sinkevičius on his election as prime minister. Sinkevičius thanked the Azerbaijani leader for the congratulations and said he would pay close attention to developing Azerbaijani-Lithuanian relations, Caliber.Az reports per state media.
The two leaders noted recent positive developments in bilateral ties, including the April visit to Azerbaijan by former Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė and her talks with President Aliyev.
They also discussed cooperation in the energy sector, particularly energy security, as well as ways to increase trade between the two countries.
Sinkevičius congratulated Ilham Aliyev on the anniversary of the Washington Peace Summit and the agreements reached there. The Azerbaijani president expressed his gratitude for the congratulations.
The two sides also discussed relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union. They noted that recent high-level contacts had contributed significantly to the development of cooperation and emphasised Lithuania’s continued support for closer Azerbaijan-EU ties.
The sides also exchanged views on the current international situation.
