Azerbaijani president pledges continued humanitarian support for Ukraine

Azerbaijan will continue providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, President Ilham Aliyev said in a congratulatory letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

“We will continue to provide humanitarian support to the friendly people of Ukraine in the future as well,” Aliyev said in the letter dated August 20, Caliber.Az reports.

The Azerbaijani leader said Azerbaijan-Ukraine relations, which he described as having rich traditions, were at a high level and that political dialogue, reciprocal high-level visits and cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres were important elements of the countries’ strategic partnership.

He also highlighted long-standing cooperation in the energy sector and praised the results of Zelenskyy’s working visit to Azerbaijan in April and their meeting.

"I highly appreciate the results of your working visit to Azerbaijan in April this year and our meeting. Undoubtedly, our regular meetings and contacts, as well as our mutual support on issues concerning the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our countries, are among the main factors contributing to the strengthening of interstate relations. The existence of an active dialogue at the highest level creates a favorable basis for deepening our cooperation in various fields, particularly in trade and the economy, humanitarian affairs, agriculture, investment, and other areas," he wrote.  

He said continued high-level dialogue created favourable conditions for expanding cooperation in trade, the economy, humanitarian affairs, agriculture and investment.

“I am confident that we will continue to make joint efforts to strengthen Azerbaijan–Ukraine friendly relations for the benefit of our peoples,” Aliyev said.

Aliyev also congratulated Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people on the anniversary, wishing the Ukrainian president good health and happiness and the people of Ukraine peace, stability and prosperity.

"On this festive day, I wish you robust health and happiness, and peace, tranquility, and prosperity to the friendly people of Ukraine," he wrote.
