Azerbaijani president receives UN Director-General for talks on climate, sustainable development
On March 12, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has received Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva.
During the meeting, Valovaya congratulated President Aliyev on the successful organization of COP29 and the important decisions made on the climate agenda, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Aliyev expressed his satisfaction with the active involvement of UN specialized agencies at COP29 and highlighted their collaboration with Azerbaijan.
The discussion focused on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was emphasized that Azerbaijan has made significant progress in socio-economic development and other areas in implementing these goals. Additionally, it was noted that the country has set its own national sustainable development goals, which could serve as a model for others.
The meeting also highlighted that in 2026, Azerbaijan, in partnership with UN-Habitat, will host the World Urban Forum. Cooperation in this area was also discussed.
