Azerbaijani president’s remarks in Nakhchivan draw international attention PHOTO

13 August 2026 20:20

International media outlets have widely reported on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s remarks during his interview with Azerbaijan Television in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, highlighting his comments on energy, transport and regional connectivity, according to state media.

Russian outlets including Kommersant, Interfax, Vestnik Kavkaza and NEWS.ru covered key parts of the interview.

Their reports quoted President Aliyev as saying: “I repeat, in our region, there is no other country that is as comprehensively supplied with energy as Azerbaijan, whether in terms of oil and gas or electricity. By expanding our export capabilities to neighboring countries, we will at the same time gain access to the European market.”

Interfax, Vestnik Kavkaza and NEWS.ru also highlighted the president’s remarks on increasing energy exports, plans to transmit European-bound electricity from Georgia and Türkiye via the Black Sea Energy project, and the expansion of solar power generation in Nakhchivan.

The reports also drew attention to Aliyev’s comments on a unified development strategy for Garabagh, East Zangezur and Nakhchivan, the transport potential of the Zangezur corridor, and plans to build power transmission lines connecting mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through Armenia.

Georgian media outlets, including Interpressnews.ge, 1TV.ge, BPN.ge and Ambebi.ge, also extensively covered the interview. Their reports focused on the president’s remarks about the importance of the trilateral statement for Armenia, which he said had also been described as an act of capitulation.

Turkish media, including Anadolu Agency, Haberler.com, Doğruhaber, Yeni Akit, Türkgün, YeniBirlik, SonDakika.com, Saraymedya, Ankara NetHaber, Fikirturu.com and TRHaber, highlighted Aliyev’s comments on the opening of the Zangezur corridor and the implementation of the TRIPP project.

The Turkish reports also noted the corridor’s projected annual cargo capacity of at least 15 million tons and its potential to accommodate not only transport links but also fibre-optic and electricity lines, as well as oil and gas infrastructure in the future.

The Northern Cyprus-based Kıbrıs Türk information portal published several reports focusing on Aliyev’s statement that the project to build power transmission lines from mainland Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan through Armenia is ready, as well as his remarks that the Zangezur corridor could eventually serve as a route for transport, energy, fibre-optic communications and oil and gas infrastructure.
