Baku Shipyard: Driving production growth through sustainable innovation Euronews talks to Chairman Elshad Nuriyev
Elshad Nuriyev, Chairman of the Board at Baku Shipyard, discusses with Euronews the pivotal role of the shipyard in Azerbaijan's industrial landscape and its substantial impact on national economic advancement.
Caliber.Az presents excerpts from the interview.
Speaking on the significance of the Baku Shipyard, Nuriyev cited as a standout example the "Khankendi," a vessel pivotal in underwater operations for the Shah Deniz Phase 2 project, crucial for supplying natural gas to Europe.
Upon assuming leadership, Nuriyev introduced three key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance operational efficiency. The first focuses on leveraging technology, including augmented reality in welding processes, to boost efficiency, precision, and safety. The second KPI aims to elevate workforce skills through partnerships with local educational institutions like ADA University and vocational schools, enhancing performance standards.
The third KPI underscores environmental sustainability initiatives such as internal transportation via bicycles, installation of solar panels, and a robust water treatment system benefiting neighbouring industries. The shipyard places significant emphasis on research and development, particularly in human-ship interfaces and smart sensor technology.
Nuriyev underscores the role of collaborative teamwork among engineers, workers, and support staff in achieving these objectives. He believes synergistic interaction among people, technology, and facilities is crucial for realizing targets and positioning Baku Shipyard as a leading hub for innovative engineering.
