Brussels condemns Iran’s retaliatory terror designation
The European Union rejected Iran’s decision to classify the armed forces of EU member states as “terrorist groups,” following the bloc’s designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
“We reject the announcement of the listing of EU armies and the accusation of terrorism,” European Commission spokesman Anouar El Anouni said, Iran International reports.
Iran’s move came in response to an EU decision taken on January 29 to place the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on its terrorist list, a step that marked a significant shift in the bloc’s approach toward Iran’s leadership.
The decision followed a deadly crackdown on protests in Iran, which intensified pressure within the EU for a tougher stance against Tehran.
